Squirrel attacks

Squirrels world-wide have apparently been on a collective, crazy, aggressive rampage:

Animal control was called to the scene near Kansas City, when three squirrel attacks were reported in one 24-hour period, including one incident that sent a victim to the emergency room.

Squirrels and crime

A man told a couple that squirrels had damaged their roof and he’d be happy to fix it…just pay up front please! The couple got some cash, the man took it, and needless to say, no squirrels were actually involved.

A squirrel in NYC bit a subway worker when she tried to shoo him away…perhaps the squirrel was late for his train? Paramedics took the worker to the hospital for treatment.

Several animals, including a gray squirrel, were seized from a couple in Savannah, Georgia. Police had a search warrant, although it’s not clear why.

Controversial squirrel rescue causes more controversy

graceLast time I reported on Grace the disabled squirrel who a family had rescued and raised without a wildlife permit. Social media helped concerned folks get attention for this issue. The squirrel was seized by the state and brought to a wildlife rehab center. What is unclear is what will happen if Grace cannot be released back into the wild. Petitioners claim that in that case, the state will euthanize her instead of return her to her rescuers. Read about it here.
